History – Hospitality – Adventure

In 1887 Lunenburg Arms Hotel started life as a merchants bank and offices. From 1909-60s Rissers Restaurant & Boarding Establishment was a going concern & in 1967 became Dolphin’s Tavern. In 2002 after extensive restoration-renovation-expansion Lunenburg Arms Hotel & Spa was born a new member of Eden Hotels and Resorts. In summer of 2023, the Hotel re-opens with renovations and the addition of 4 new suites installed in the former Risser’s Restaurant area.  A total of  nine rooms now have kitchenettes which may accommodate and enhance a longer stay with us.

Founded in 1753

Town of Lunenburg Nova Scotia

Since its early beginnings, Lunenburg has been many things – firstly a home to foreign protestant settlers. By the 1800s the early settlers had adapted to new circumstance and prospered through shipping, trade, fishing, farming, and shipbuilding. During prohibition in the US (1920-1933), Lunenburg was an important base for rum-running operations.

Declared a Canadian National Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1995), one of Canada’s Prettiest Painted Places and in June 2002, the recipient of the coveted Phoenix Award from the Society of American Travel Writers, the Town of Lunenburg is the perfect place to stay for a few days while you immerse yourself in the history, culture and hospitality of our beautiful province of Nova Scotia.

We are pleased to recommend our favorite spots – great beaches, hiking, biking and walking trails, walking tours, water tours, historical places and museums, the “Must Do” shopping in Lunenburg and surrounding area as well as day trips to other towns. There are lots of things to do in and around Lunenburg, and day trips are plentiful.
